The whole point of casting is to reduce machine time and to create a less expensive frame with the same tolerance and strength. The single most expensive machining operation in a 1911 frame is hollowing-out the magwell, and that opening is created as part of the molding process on a 1911 cast frame.

The casting techniques and the metals used for gun parts are far advanced from what would be used, say for a cast iron stove. In the "investment casting" method (aka "lost wax" lost plastic etc) the plastic / wax dummy is moulded to within a few thou of the required size and with due allowences for the metal contracting as it cools, and for a slight excess of metal to be left on ...
Steel casting involves pouring molten steel into a mold and allowing it to harden as it cools. Casting is amenable to the manufacture of complex shapes and particularly large parts. However, cast parts end up with a random crystalline microstructure that makes them potentially weaker than forgings. ... Using the 1911 Ronin Operator as an ...
The casting is in a sufficient state of "uncompleteness" (i know, not a word) such that it is not considered a firearm. For all intents and purposes, it is a metal part no different than a metal stick shift for a car. Therefore, no license is required.
Yup, Ruger makes a fine pistol and Caspain frames may be made by them. I like my 1911's made of forged steel, even if they may be from China. It's not that forged steel is not strong enough to put a 1911 through any test, its the idea of what the pistol is supposed to be. It supposed to be forged steel. It's just the wasy we do it.
Cast metal products, are heated until they reach a molten/liquid state and then poured into a mold to achieve whatever the desired shape/product is. Forging is a different process in which metal is heated and beaten, either manually or by machine/press to form a certain shape.

Cast stainless steel is made by pouring liquid metal into a molding container with a specific shape. Wrought stainless steel starts out at a steel mill, where continuous casters make stainless into ingots, blooms, billets, or slabs. These raw manufacturing materials must then be shaped by further work. They are reheated and reworked using ...

Many 1911 pistols nowadays such as the Para GI Expert and the Remington R1 for example have cast steel frames. Ruger has done this for years with success but the design of the frames was made with the manufacturing process in mind. The 1911 frame was also designed with manufacturing processes of the day in mind.
The cast frames have thicker metal in areas to beef them up and that is what makes them stronger in regards to the BHP. They are not stronger simply because they are cast instead of forged. I had a MIM slide stop sheer off at 200 rounds in a new 1911 and don't trust the MIM stuff personally.
